In November last year, the Buy NZ Made Team were lucky to head along to Otago Knitwear in Dunedin for a factory visit with company director, Geoff Keogh.
Otago Knitwear is one of New Zealand’s leading knitwear manufacturers, supplying fabric and garments to retailers, wholesalers and designers.
The business was established in 1999, taking over from Bowens Manufacturing and now employs 15 staff, including a team of highly-skilled machinists and knitwear technicians.
It was great seeing the computerised knitting machines on the go, Otago Knitwear place particular emphasis on ensuring they have the latest technology and the confidence to manage it. The highly skilled machinists then turn this knitted fabric into quality garments.
Otago Knitwear is home to several men’s and women’s wear lines, as well as club, corporate knitwear and accessories. They’re particularly known for their school knitwear, supplying about 30 schools in Dunedin and across the country.
Otago Knitwear provides contract services such as fabric production, bulk knitting, garment making and embroidery, and is often involved with helping up and coming designers at Otago Polytechnic.
